I chose to work in medicine because, ever since I was a child, I have wanted to help people. \n When I was growing up, my parents worked in a Montgomery Ward store in Kansas with a little coffee shop inside. The residents at the retirement facility across the street would come over every day to drink coffee and socialize. I used to go to work with my parents and sit with the older adults. If the weather was bad, I'd hold their hands while they walked across the street.
