Alexis C. Smith, NP, is a nurse practitioner specializing in thoracic surgery at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has advanced training in the delivery of care for all conditions treated by our thoracic surgeons, including cancers of the lung, esophagus, thymus (makes white blood cells that fight infection in the body) and mediastinum (space around the lungs), swallowing disorders, hiatal hernias, rib fractures, pneumothoraces (collection of air in the sac around the lung) and pleural effusions (collection of fluid in the sac around the lungs). Alexis manages care plans for thoracic patients in the hospital and in the clinic and assists with procedures in the operating room.
